Slovenian Language Exam as a Second and Foreign Language at Entry Level (A1)

The CDI Univerzum, in collaboration with the Center for Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language (Department of Slovenian Studies, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Ljubljana), conducts Slovenian language proficiency exams at the entry level according to the publicly recognized educational program “Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language.” The exams are intended for individuals who require an officially recognized certificate of Slovene language proficiency at the A1 level for personal or official purposes (e.g., Article 8.a of the Labor Market Regulation Act).

How do I apply?

WE ACCEPT ONLY ELECTRONIC APPLICATIONS.

Please submit the application form no later than fourteen days before the examination date. If the exam session is already closed, you will be assigned to the next available one. The exam fee is €140.00. We kindly ask that you make the payment online (via our online store) if possible; otherwise, several other payment methods are available (listed below the table).

Anyone can apply for the Slovenian language exam, even if you have not previously studied under the program “Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language” or completed exam preparations. Before applying for the exam, we recommend visiting or calling CDI Univerzum, where you can familiarize yourself with the exam procedure and tasks. You will receive support in preparing for the exam and guidance on how to approach your studies.

What about cancellations?

You can withdraw from the exam no later than four working days before the scheduled exam date. In this case, you will be rescheduled for the next exam date, or you will receive an 85% refund of the exam fee. If you withdraw from the exam without cancellation, you must re-register for the exam and pay the full fee again.

How is the exam conducted?

The Slovenian language exam consists of a written part (reading, listening, writing) and an oral part (speaking). In both parts, you will need to prove your identity with a valid photo ID. For the written part of the exam, you will need a pen; no other materials are allowed. The written and oral parts of the entry-level exam are usually conducted on the same day.

Candidates who participate in the exam according to Article 8.a of the Employment Market Regulation Act and are illiterate or poorly educated (less than 6 grades of primary school) can only take the exam for verbal communication in Slovenian at the entry level based on a written referral from the Employment Service of the Republic of Slovenia.

How is the exam evaluated?

To achieve a positive grade, you must score at least 60% in each part. The final grade for the exam is descriptive: passed or not passed. Candidates will receive their exam results no later than 30 working days after taking the exam. If you pass the exam, you will receive a certificate of knowledge of Slovenian as a second and foreign language, along with an annex. We would like to inform you that registration for Slovenian language exams at the entry and basic levels using administrative unit certificates for free exam participation is no longer possible due to the expiration of the public procurement contract.
You may register for the announced exam dates as self-paying candidates or wait for the results of the new public procurement process.

What rights do I have?

After the exam, you can view your examination documentation at the Examination Center in Ljubljana.

You can submit a complaint regarding the examination process within 8 days of taking the exam, and a complaint regarding the exam results within 8 days of receiving notification of the result.
